 Linger is a book I'm currently reading by Maggie Stiefvater. In the book Grace is sick and dying. With the dim glow of the hospital lights reflecting Grace's pasty skin she looked like a ghost. At the end of the book Sam makes the decision to let Grace go by turning her in to a wolf since it's the only way to keep her alive. I would have done the same thing as Sam because sometimes when you really care about someone that just means having the power to let them go.

Gloria Whalen purposefully juxtaposes characters in Goodbye Vietnam. She juxtaposes Kim and Mai. Kim wears blue jeans and plays the flute. Mai on the other hand wears a tunic. She does this to show the differences in the two families by making Mai's family traditional and Kim's family more modern.

Everything in my reading was pretty unbelievable. I am  reading The Hobbit. The book went on from scenes about a little hobbit fighting gigantic spiders to talking eagles. The book was about a little hobbit named Bilbo Baggins helping dwarfs get their land back from an evil talking dragon named Smaug. I feel it had all this make-believe stuff in it because it was supposed to be set in the past.

 J.R.R. Tolkien emphasizes a theme in The Hobbit.The theme is anyone can be a hero. In the beginning of the book it talks about how Bilbo is just a short, fat hobbit. This makes the dwarfs mad at Gandalf for bringing him on the journey, but as the story progresses the hobbit turns into a hero killing gigantic hairy spiders and other evil creatures. I feel that Tolkien does this to show us that heroes are all around us.

The setting is the time and place in the story. The setting impacts the plot by creating conflict for the characters. Also, it plays a big part in the choices the characters in the story make.

The author's writing is powerful. It helps me visualize the scene. When Ponyboy,Darry, and Soda are racing each other home S.E. Hinton writes"...The air was so clear and cold and so clean it almost sparkled. The moon wasn't out but the stars lit up everything..." When I read this I visualize the three Curtis boys racing each other down the street. I see the sky up above them with stars sparkling brighting up the dim night. S.E. Hinton uses great sensory language that makes the scene come alive in my mind like it's actually happening.

I am most like Johnny in The Outsiders. In the book it talks about how Johnny is like a lost puppy I feel that way sometimes even when I'm with my friends. Johnny hangs out with folks like Ponyboy that are judged by how they look and not by their character. I too have friends like Ponyboy that are judged that way.
